John and Loretta Loconto, 2009 Carnevale Chairpersons, welcomed 150 Guests who paraded into the ballroom of the Dunwoody Country Club in assorted masks and formal attire to celebrate Carnivale, La Società Italiana’s special charity fund raiser and Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday, February 21. The Cocktail hour with Hors d'oeuvres was celebrated to the music of Marge DeBenedetto and Bert Emma on the piano. Following the parade of masks lead by Joe and Mary Costa, reigning King and Queen, Batman thanked this years Carnevale Committee as Party-goers enjoyed a luxurious country club setting and shaked and rattled their masks to the music of the Sal Gentile Trio. Twin entrees of Filet and Chicken Picatta dinner was served before guests surveyed silent auction offerings, and checked their tickets for lucky numbers to the 16 Door Prizes awarded throughout the evening. Best Female (JoAnn DePace) and Best Male Mask ( Joe DiBenedetto Jr.) award winners were announced followed by the crowning of the 2009 Kind and Queen, John and JoAnn Nuzullo. Peggy Diaz announced that the Raffle had raised over $25,000 for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home prior to selecting the winning ticket for the grand prize. La Società Italiana welcomes members and non-members to the annual premiere event. The social club in Atlanta was established in 1986, and celebrates Italian-American heritage through events and fellowship.
